Paremata
A harbour suburb at the entrance to the Pāuatahanui Inlet, with its own train station since 1885 and the ruins of the 1840s Paremata Barracks. It's a base for boating and fishing, with water views from many homes.

First home buyers
A stretch for most first home buyers. No homes for sale have a CV under $600,000, and only 5 are under $800,000.
Upsizers
A good fit if you want space near the water. 10 of the 18 homes for sale have 4 or 5 bedrooms, and the train station makes commuting easy.
Downsizers
Popular with people at a later stage of life, with an older population than most suburbs. Smaller homes are scarce, with only 2 two bedroom homes for sale.
What's changing in Paremata
The plans and projects most likely to affect Paremata.
Plimmerton Farm, just to the north, has resource consent for around 2,000 to 2,400 homes, a retirement village and a school site. Earthworks on the first stage are underway.
What it could mean: more people nearby over time, which could mean more local services, plus more new homes competing for buyers.
With Transmission Gully open, the old State Highway 1 through Paremata became State Highway 59.
What it could mean: less through traffic on Paremata's roads, with fast motorway access a few minutes away.
Porirua's new District Plan rules are now treated as operative, except where they are under appeal. They set what can be built on each property.
What it could mean: some properties may have more development potential than before. Check your property's zone on the council's ePlan, or ask me.
