Plimmerton
A seaside village that began as a holiday resort when the railway arrived in 1885, named after Wellington settler John Plimmer. It has a sheltered beach, a village shopping strip and a train station right beside the shops.

First home buyers
Possible if a smaller home works for you. 4 homes for sale have a CV under $600,000, and 7 are one or two bedroom homes.
Upsizers
Limited choice right now, with no 3 bedroom homes and 5 four bedroom homes for sale. Plimmerton Farm should add family homes over the next few years.
Downsizers
One of Porirua's best fits. Shops, a medical centre, the beach and the train are all within walking distance, and 7 one and two bedroom homes are for sale.
What's changing in Plimmerton
The plans and projects most likely to affect Plimmerton.
Plimmerton Farm was granted fast-track resource consent in late 2024 for around 2,000 to 2,400 homes, with a commercial area, retirement village and school site. Earthworks on the first stage are underway, and builders expect the first titles from late 2026 or early 2027.
What it could mean: the biggest change to Plimmerton in decades. More new homes will compete with existing ones, but it should also bring more shops and services to the area.
With Transmission Gully open, the road through Plimmerton became State Highway 59.
What it could mean: less through traffic in the village, with fast motorway access close by.
Porirua's new District Plan rules are now treated as operative, except where they are under appeal. They set what can be built on each property.
What it could mean: some properties may have more development potential than before. Check your property's zone on the council's ePlan, or ask me.
